Rat Broke Into an ATM, Ate Almost $20,000 Worth of Cash, and Passed Away Immediately

Gobbling down thousands of hard cash would definitely not make you stinking rich, but would rather turn your stomach into a barrel of small bits of paper. This is what the rat from Assam state in northeastern India learned the hard way.



According to reports, the rat squeezed itself inside an automated teller machine (ATM). It was small enough to steer clear of the security camera and scooped out inside, tearing down and feasting on $17,662 worth of Rupees from the ATM’s $42,685 supply. As a result, the dauntless rodent passed away right away.

Reuters reported that the said ATM went on the fritz for several days when technicians were called to look over it. What they discovered next looked like the contents of a paper shredder, with the hardened and shriveled up cadaver of the rat hidden under a pile of minced up bills.

Chandan Sharma, branch manager of State Bank of India, told reporters:

“The ATM was out of order for a few days and when our technicians opened the kiosk we were shocked to find shredded notes and a dead rat…We have started an investigation into this rare incident alend will take measures to prevent a recurrence.”

According to the Hindustan Times, even though investigators did not find a footage of a rat setting foot into the machine upon examining the security cameras, they eventually drew it to a close that no foul play was involved.
