Here’s another reason to love Miss Universe Vietnam 2018 H’Hen Nie. After making history as the first contestant from Vietnam to reach Miss Universe 2018’s Top 5, the popular beauty queen decided to donate her entire cash prize to community activities, as announced through the official Instagram page of Miss Universe Vietnam on Wednesday.
The caption of the said post reads: “After making history for Vietnam by reaching to the final Top 5 in Miss Universe 2018, H’Hen Nie has received a total 1-billion-VND ($43,000) prize from various sponsors as well as her managing company.
She’s decided to donate 100% of her prize for social activities. She wants to complete her promise with her village to provide scholarships for poor students and complete her social project Room to Read (build more libraries in rural areas, support schoolgirls around the world). Such an amazing act of her.”
Room to Read is a non-profit organisation where Nie is an ambassador. In her introduction video for Miss Universe, Nie said she gave away all of her prize money of $10,000 after winning Vietnam’s national pageant and opened a library in the countryside to help children learn how to read.
She also revealed that her parents wanted her to get married at the age of 14, but she chose to study and fulfill her own dreams.
As Nie returned to Vietnam on Wednesday, she was greeted by an overwhelming amount of supporters at the airport. She expressed thanks in an Instagram post, saying: “Thank you for welcoming me back home. I didn’t feel tired, I didn’t cry. But I did cry because of your warm welcoming when I was back to Vietnam, those were tears of happiness.”
