Star Magic artist and former member of It’s Showtime’s female pop group Girltrends, Jane De Leon instantly became the talk of the town when she was named as the new “Darna.”
The 20-year-old actress has been on several projects in ABS-CBN but nothing as big as this iconic role. She even appeared in the high-rating primetime drama “Halik” as Maggie Bartolome, sister of Jericho Rosales’ character, Lino.
In a now-viral video shared by ABS-CBN’s film production company Star Cinema, they shared Jane de Leon’s first reaction when she was told that she would be the one to replace Liza Soberano in the titular role of the movie remake about Filipino superhero Darna.
As seen in the video, Jane is in a conference room with the film’s director Jerrold Tarog and other ABS-CBN executives such as the company’s president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, ABS-CBN Films managing director Olivia Lamasan, ABS-CBN chief content officer Charo Santos-Concio, among others.
When she was asked how committed she is to the project, the 20-year-old actress expressed her 100% commitment to the role without batting an eye.
She added, “I can surrender all for her [Darna]. Iyong desire pati ‘yung heart ko po talaga ay nandoon po kay Darna.”
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Films Managing Director Olivia Lamasan was the one who announced the good news that they already made the decision who would portray the highly coveted role of Darna.
“So, are you ready for the responsibility, Jane? Tinatanggap mo na ba ang bato? Kaya mo bang tanggapin ang bato?”
After hearing what she said, Jane was really shocked and speechless at first, she then answered, “yes po” before putting her head down on the table and hid her face.
Jane finally broke down in tears and still couldn’t believe that she was chosen among 227 women who auditioned for the role.
After composing herself, the actress hugged everyone in the room one by one as each executive congratulated her and gave tips.
The actress also received a heartfelt message from Charo Santos-Concio who told her that,
“Today is the beginning of the rest of your life.”
She was also assured by the company’s president and CEO Carlo Katigbak that she can do it and there’s no need to be nervous.
