Jimuel Pacquiao Following his Father’s Footsteps In The Boxing Ring
It’s no secret that the eldest son of eight-division world champion and Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, Jimuel Pacquiao has been very vocal on his intention of following in his father’s footsteps.
The 18-year old son of Manny has shown a lot of potential in the ring and remain undefeated in his previous amateur bouts this year.
Last Tuesday (July 9), Jimuel once again joined his father in his exercise routine in the US as Manny’s camp trains for his upcoming title bout against reigning WBA (Super) Welterweight World Champion Keith Thurman, on July 20.
Based on a report by ABS-CBN News, this was the first time that father and son entered the boxing ring together at Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles to do some practice boxing.
It can be seen in the video that Manny taught his eldest son about some pointers in boxing such as the proper movement of the feet and the right angle of arms for defense.
It will be recalled that the world-champion father, Manny Pacquiao was hesitant at first to let Jimuel follow in his footsteps and had tried several times to discourage him from doing boxing.
Manny and his wife Jinkee Pacquiao want their eldest son focus on his studies so that he’ll be the one managing their family’s business in the future. They also tried to push him in a different athletic direction.
He also explained to his son that he only pursued boxing because his family was poor and boxing gave him a path to support his family. Because of all his efforts, Jimuel and his four siblings did not experience the hardships that he experienced while growing up.
However, the eight-division world champion conceded that his son is really serious in pursuing a career in the ring and has now been supportive of his son’s dream to represent the country in International competition.
Jimuel recently graduated from high school at Brent International School in Biñan, Laguna. Manny and Jinkee took to Instagram to share their eldest son’s latest milestone. The 18-year-old young Pacquiao also made headlines last March, when he and actress Heaven Peralejo finally admitted their relationship.
