Alex Gonzaga’s ‘Chambe’ dance takes over on ASAP Natin ‘To stage where Alex and Toni shared the origin of the word “Chambe,” which was inspired by a nickname Alex uses to call her nephew, Severiano Elliott or Seve.
“Nagsimula ‘yan noong si Seve, ang tawag sa kaniya ng ate ko, chubby,” Alex says.
“Super taba niya, talagang siksik na siksik na chubby, nilagyan lang namin ng ‘m’ sa gitna, ‘chumbby,” Toni said.
“Dahil may pagkajologs talaga siya (Alex), [ginawa niyang] ‘chambe,” Toni added.
After that, Alex began to sing Seve the “Chambe,” which came in the tune of Mike Hanopol song “Laki sa Layaw”, until she made it a full song and added her signature dance moves.
She took some of her acquaintances to their place in Taytay, Rizal to be part of the song’s music video, her sister Toni and their parents also made special appearances in the wacky hip hop video.
In addition, Alex’s current boyfriend, Mikee Moranda, and even their house helper and their cook were also part of the said music video.
According to one of Alex’s back-up dancers in the video, “In-invite na lang kami ni Alex na, ‘Hey, kailangan ko ng dancer for the dance craze’ tapos di namin alam na magva-viral siya ng ganoon,” he said.
A few days after the music video was released, “Chambe” quickly became a trending topic as it topped the YouTube list of top trending videos in the Philippines.
It has 4.4 million views on YouTube today and many fans have begun to post their own versions on social media.
Last Sunday, Alex Gonzaga or “AG” as she referred to herself presents “Chambe” in “ASAP Natin ‘To” with Toni and other Kapamilya stars such as Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber.
